German troops invaded Poland, officially starting WWll. British troops were fast to send aid to Poland. It was a test of Germany's 'lightning war' which was supposed to catch enemy defenders off guard. This strategy worked very well and Poland fell quickly. This event matters because it is when WWll started, and when the Allies once again attacked German attackers. It is also where Hitler implemented his new strategy, which worked very well, showing him to to take the enemies by surprise.

It was a sweep through smaller countries, which was ordered by Hitler. This allowed for the Allies to focus more on these countries as German troops were headed to the Ardennes, a wooded region of France. Allied forces got trapped at the beach, with nowhere to go, however Great Britain sent out ships to go and rescue them. French leaders were forced to surrender, allowing Germany to capture France and it's people. A radio message was sent out to the people to join them in resisting the Germans.

After defeating France, Germany now wanted Britain. Hitler led an unrelenting assault against them however the remaining Allies and Great Britain was able to defend themselves and prevent them from breaching their defenses. The fighting and eventual victory demonstrated the how strong-willed the people and military was able to prevent a Nazi invasion. This victory certainly boosted morale and nationalism.

Pearl Harbor was a naval base located in Hawaii that was struck by a Japanese aerial attack. This is important because it led to congress declaring war on Japan, and whilst initially the U.S did not want to join WWll, after the attack and deceleration of war on Japan they joined in.

It was a major naval battle in the pacific between the Japanese and the Allies. The US destroyed their aircraft carriers as well as many of their planes and troops. This caused the Japanese to withdraw and gave the Allies power over the Pacific Ocean, which they would use to move troops, planes, and ships. It also knocked Japan out of the war temporarily as they regrouped, giving them more manpower for the fight with Germany.

This battle is considered one of the greatest battles of WWll, which was fought by the Soviet Union against Germany. It heavily weakened and halted the German army and helped the Allies eventually secure a victory. This was fought for the control of Stalingrad, a city which bore the name of Stalin.

After an attack from the Allies, they were able to capture it from both German and Italian troops. Germany did regain power and put Mussolini back in power, however the Allies ended up pushing German soldiers northward, giving them control of Rome. Fighting did continue but the fact that they were able to remove the fascist government from power meant that there was one less threat to worry about for the Allies. This definitely helped the Allies win as they did not have an additional threat.

It is considered one of the most important military successes for the Allies, and allowed them to shift the control Nazi Germany had, giving it to them. It was the largest invasion ever completed and put troops on five beaches in Normandy, France. Eventually more than 850,000 total troops were deployed there.
-
It was the last counter-offensive made by Germany against the Allies. It is important because it allowed the Allies to push the troops back to Germany, and ultimately led to the surrendering of Germany to the Allies. It was Germany's best chance at a push back, and once they failed and lost hundreds of troops, it was impossible to recover.

Soviet forces closed in on Berlin, and even joined up with American forces to fight central Germany in the west. Hitler committed suicide and days later Berlin fell. German troops surrendered in the West, followed shortly after by the forces in the east. The fall of Germany ended WWll, and though the re-building was far from over, the fighting was and so soldiers and people celebrated V-E (victory) day in Europe a few days later. Washington and other countries also celebrated the end of the war.

After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, America's most important naval base, they wanted revenge. Congress declared war on Japan the following day, and this brought the United States into WWll. They dropped atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two major cities in Japan. These bombs killed about 120 thousand civilians and this caused Japan to surrender shortly after. This removed another enemy to the Allies, helping them focus all of their power to defeating Germany and ending WWll.
