    Hitler signed a nonaggrsion pact with the Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin. The treaty said that Germany would not attack the Soviet Union as long as the Soviets did not attack. The pact fell apart in June 1941 when Germany invaded the Soviet Union.

    Both countries were taken over within a day and put up very little resistance compared to the German war machine. Both were under German control until the end of the war.

    The French surrender to German forces on June 22, 1940. Germany took france over in about a month and a half. Germany would lose about 170,000 troops, France lost over two million between dead an captured.
  • Battle of Britain

    After Germany had taken a number of countries they finally turned their attention to the British. The British had very good natural defenses against any ground attacks. The Germans had to take to the sky if they wanted Britain. The Germans did not know that Britain had developed radar so they could tell where they were coming from. The Germans would end up losing this battle and would not be able to take Britain.

    The attack occurred at 7:48 a.m. Hawaii time, the Japanese Navy attack with 353 aircraft which included: fighters, bombers, and torpedo planes all launched from 6 aircraft carriers. The Japanese sank 4 U.S. Battle ships and damaged the other 4, along with 3 cruisers, 3 destroyers, an anti-aircraft trainer, and a minelayer. This attack brought the United States into WWII.
  • Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway was a naval battle fought between the United States and the Japanese navies. It was one of the most important naval battles in all of WWII. The Japanese were setting up on ambush on a United States aircraft carrier, the united states had cracked Japans secret code and knew about the ambush. The United States set up an ambush for the Japanese navy that was getting ready to ambush the aircraft carrier. The United States came out victorious in this battle.

    In August 1942 the United States lunched a program in hopes of developing the atom bomb. The program was call the Manhattan Project, the program was launched at the beginning of WWII in fear that Germany would develop the atom bomb.

    The Battle of Stalingrad lasted 5 months 1 weeks and 2 days. When Germany invaded Russia they were conquering the Russians and killing thousands at the same time. When winter hit the Germans were not ready, some were still in summer time cloths and freezing. They began to dig in and stop the offensive on the Russians because they couldn't get supplies to the front line. The Germans would be pushed out of Russia after having been almost destroyed by them.

  • Inavsion of Normandy

    The Allied Forces landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944 and were under heavy machine gun fire the whole time. There was obstacles all over the beach preventing tanks and heavy armor from landing. There was also obstacles like barb wire and other things blocking foot soldiers from advancing. There was at least 10,000 casualties and 4,414 confirmed dead for the allied forces. The Germans had anywhere from 4,000 to 9,000 casualties.

    Hitler killed himself in his underground bunker in Berlin. Hitler and his wife both killed themselves in the bunker.
  • Germany surrenders

    Germany surrenders to the Allied forces on May 7, 1945 ending all fighting in Europe.
  • V-Day

    On May 8, 1945 Germany surrendered to the Allied Forces and would end the fighting in Europe. People all around the world celebrated, from almost every part of the world.

    In retaliation for the attacks on Pearl Harbor the United States dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima. The death toll is believed to be any where from 90,000 to 166,000. Hiroshima was the first use of nuclear weapons for warfare in all of human history.
  • Japan Surrenders

    On September 3, 1945 the Japanese surrendered to the Allied forces and would bring WWII to an end. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan was in shock and crippled. With the threat of the Soviet Union and the United States invading the mainland they were forced into surrendering.
