    A major naval battle in the Pacific 6 months after Japan's strike on Pearl Harbor. Won by the United States and turned the tide in the war.

    On February 8, 1943, Japanese troops evacuate Guadalcanal, leaving the island in Allied possession after a prolonged campaign.

    The last major battle of WWII and one of the most deadly although it yielded an allied victory.
  • The Dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    The United States dropped a series of atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The first atomic bombs to ever be used on people and lead to the Japanese surrender in WWII.
