the french and British had been badly defeated by Germany in the battle of France. over 350,000 men were trapped. the British decided to send out a call and try to evacuate by sea. the Britain civilians began to rescue them using all different types of boats. they were able to rescue about 340,000 men. the army had to leave behind their equipment but that was all replaced. this huge win was considered a miracle and Britain would go on to fight in many other battles.
