    Germany's invasion of Poland
    Poland was a major point of required territory for Hitler in his plan to take over Europe. On august 31st, 1939. German forces crossed into Polish territory to officaliy start WW2. His offensive strategy know as: Blitzkrieg (which involved use of mechanized ground forces and a barrage of air attacks as well). Despite objections from Britain and France, Hitler pushed on until Poland was forced to surrender.

    Blitzkrieg was seemingly based around the new war technology. Enemies were under the impression that tanks and planes were everywhere. Often the Germans and their great way they ruled the skies and the ground with dive bombers and tanks is why they were attributed as great fighters.

    The Soviet Union and it's varied people were to be subdued if Germany's "great empire" was to take place. The captured lands provided food, slave labor, and serve to army advances. Operation Barbarossa was launched to begin in the eastern front. The plan was the axis forces would reach Moscow which was the capital of the Soviet Union through surprise and strength. With luck on his side in the forms of weather, Germany made tremendous gains.

    A major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in Southern Russia, on the eastern boundary of Europe.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The allied invasion of France marked the day known as infamy as D-Day. Germany was struggling up against the red army, having trouble replacing the mounting losses. Germany set up fake artillery to give invading troops a decoy. The Atlantic wall gave Germany the chance to launch the counter attack. The allied invasion had amassed to the south of England and "moderation overload" had begun.

    The battle of Iwo Jima
    was a major battle in which the United States Armed Forces landed and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. The strategic importance of the island was miniscule other than the fact that it could be used for landing strips. The US troops numbers were too much for the japs and they seemingly had lost from the beginning.

    (Victory in Europe day) Marked the formal of acceptance by the allies of World War II and nazi Germaine's unconditional surrender of its armed force. Thus marking the end of WW2 in Europe.

    The two bombings that were dropped on the major cities of japan killed 129,000 people and remained the only use of nuclear warfare in history.
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. This sparked spontaneous celebrations over the final ending of World War II. On September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. At the time, President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day.
