  • 1939 BCE

    Non-Aggression Pact

    Two countries agreed to not take any military action against each other for the next 10 years.
  • 1929 BCE

    Stalin comes to power

    Was the leader of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics from 1929-1953. Stalin transformed the soviet union from a peasant stricken society to a military superpower. He ruled on the fear of others and had many citizens killed during his rule. After his death the Soviet union came together to de-Stalinize.
  • 1922 BCE

    Mussolini becomes prime minister of Italy

    Rose to power in the wake of WWII. He was originally a revolutionary socialist that forged the Fascist movement in 1919, and then became prime minister in 1922. He exhausted his military forces and later allied himself with Hitler in hopes of gaining more power through WWII. In 1945 he was killed in the German surrender in Italy
  • Hitler becomes chancellor

    At first Hindenburg refused to make Hitler chancellor of Germany and instead recommended General Kurt von Schleicher. That made the Nazi’s lose their ground but the communists regained it and were determined to put Hitler in power. After many negotiations ex-Chancellor Franz von Papen convinced General Kurt von Schleicher to appoint Hitler as chancellor and von Schleicher as vice-chancello
  • Holocaust

    A mass murder to 6 million European Jews. Hitler thought Jews were the inferior race, an alien race the pure German community. The Holocaust was Hitler’s “final solution,” it expanded under the cover of WWII.
  • Invasion of Poland

    Due to the German-Soviet pact, Germany could invade Poland without Soviet intervention. It took weeks to actually invade Poland but it worked.
  • Battle of the Atlantic

    Longest "Battle" in order to defeat Germany. It lasted from 1939 - 1945
  • Phony War

    An eight-month period at the beginning of WWII where no military operations took place in the Western Front.
  • Battle of Britian

    This battle was between Britain and Germany. The royal air force vs the German air force. This was the largest bombing war to this date. This led to the London bombings.
  • Lend Lease Act Passed in US

    A principle mean for the U.S. military to aid foreign nations during WWII.
  • Hitler Invades Soviet Union

    When Hitler invaded the Soviet it was one of the largest German military operations in WWII. The invasion covered a front from the North Cape to the Black Sea. This invasion was the turning point in WWII, because the failure of it forced Nazi-Germany to fight two front wars.
  • Pear Harbor Attack

    Japanese fighter planes attacked the naval base of Pearl Harbor, it lasted about two hours. They Japanese managed to destroy 20 naval vessels, eight battleships, and more than 300 airplanes. More than 2,000 American soldiers died in the attack and another 1,000 were injured.
  • America Declares war on Japan, enter WW2

    After the attack FDR ran the House of Representatives to declare war on Japan. After the declaration, Japanese Americans started to be round up and sent to camps.
  • War Production Board Created

    Was an agency of the United States Government. It saw war production over during wars. President Roosevelt created this with an executive order.
  • Executive Order 9066

    An executive order signed and issued ten weeks after the Pearl Harbor bombing. It authorized the removal of any or all military personnel from areas that were deemed desirable able. In turn the military force turned the whole West Coast into camps where many Japanese Americans were relocated. For the next two and a half years they had to endure the poor living condition and poor treatment from the US military guards.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    The battle of Stalingrad was a major battle. Before this Hitler had made a pact with Stalin to be allies. However Hitler breaks this and invades Stalingrad, Russia.
  • Battle of Coral Sea

    Major battle fought in the pacific theater between Japan and the US Navy and Air Force.
  • Battle of Midway

    Six months after Pearl Harbor the US cracked codes and inflicted permanent damage on Japan's naval fleet.
  • Operation Torch (North Africa)

    The British-American invasion of French north Africa.
  • Office of war mobilization

    It was formed on May 1943 by Executive Order 9347 during WWII to coordinate all government agencies involved on the war front. It was an independent organization.
  • Invasion of Sicily/Italy

    After defeating Germany the Allied powers moved to invade Italy in hopes to remove the fascism in Italy. They wanted to drive the German and Italian forces out of Italy. On July 1943 they succeed in running the German and Italian out of Sicily.
  • D-Day

    156,000 American, British, and Canadian troops invaded Nomandy. They stood along 5 beaches. They did this to mislead the Germans. They eventually invaded by late August.
  • IWO JIMA

    The US invaded Iwo Jima in order to gain ground on Japan. They got through.
  • Okinawa

    Last Pacific Battle of the war, Japan lost 77,000 soldiers.
  • Battle of Berlin

    This battle marked the end of World War Two in Europe. The Russians win causing the end of the German reign. They called this city the red city and eventually split the city up after the war.
  • Hitler Commits Suicide

    Hitler had been living in an under ground bunker for sometime now. He completed repairs on his bunker so it was self-sufficient. He got word that the Russians were coming and committed suicide.
  • V-E Day

    Victory in Europe day! Both in America and in Europe, flags were put out and parades were marched. They rejoiced the end of the Nazi reign.
  • Dropping of the atomic bombs

    In to get the Japaneses to surrender America decides to drop an atomic bomb. This was a 5 ton bomb dropped of the city of Hiroshima. This blast killed 80,000 people. Some innocent.
  • End of WW2

    The war officially ended on September 2,1945. The Paris peace conference ended on February 10th with the signing of peace treaties by wartime Allies.
