    A concentration camp was a place where prisoners would be held in harsh conditions. The prisoners got every one of their rights taken away when they were placed in these camps. The camps started out as labor camps and slowly turned into death camps. Once the camps gained more control they started selectively killing people.

    In Nazi euthanasia means murder program. The meaning of the name tells exactly what it was. The program targeted mentally and physically disabled children under the age of 5. This became very successful and it changed to target older teens and adults. Over 200,000 people died due to this program

    Rosie was the symbol that while men were at war, they could do the same jobs as the men. Some features she has makes her look strong like a man but she still has her lady like features in there too. She has a story behind her about her boyfriend going to war and Rosie wanting to help where the men worked.

    The tuskegee flyers was the popular name for African-American military pilots. At 1st no one wanted to be under the protection of a Tuskegee flyer. Later on the Tuskegee became the best, protective group.

    With the war being expensive they would ask for money to help pay for more tanks, guns and other supplies. People had jobs and got money for working but they didn’t have anything to buy. The people were told if they wanted to buy something with their extra money, the war bonds would be one of the best things to buy.

    85,000 Germans died within 6 weeks of the invasion happening. This was the largest German military operation during the ww2. When Hitler invaded Russia, their civilians fought back and Hitler was surprised.

    Japan sent fighter planes to bomb Pearl Harbor. 2,403 Americans were killed, 180 US aircrafts sunk and 18 US naval vessels were destroyed. This was a tragedy to watch and be part of. The date for ever lives in infamy.

    After the attack on Pearl Harbor happened, FDR requested we declare war on Japan. FDR held a 10 minute long speech to convince the people it was the right decision to go to war with Japan. He later signed a declaration at 4:10.

    The US declared war on Germany’s ally. Later Germany and Italy declared the US. This brought America into the European conflict.

    The Navajos were used as code talkers in the war. The Navajo language was one of the hardest languages to learn so the US knew it would be the easiest for a code. The US marines took their language to the next level and turned it virtual.

    The Bataan Death March was a march all the way to a POW camp. It was between 60-80 miles long and took between 5-12 days to march all the way there. There were 10,000- 13,000 American and Filipinos dead.

    FDR gave a state of union speech and he asked for 4 freedoms. He asked for the freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and the freedom from fear. He insisted people in all nations shared the freedoms.

    This started in April and later in October it was controlled. The Jews brought a rebellion against the Nazis. The Nazis found this a surprise , they weren’t expecting for this to happen.

    Roosevelt created a War Refugee Board. This would allow over 200,000 Jewish refugees to enter the US. One of the Jew refugees was Albert Einstein.

    On this day the US took over the Normandy beaches. This was the biggest attack ever. More than 160,000 troops landed on the 50 mile stretch of the beaches.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    This conference was the second wartime meeting. Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, and FDR agreed to demand a surrender for Germany. These meetings were tried to be kept secrets but that didn’t last long.
  • Suicide

    On this day Adolf Hitler committed suicide. He swallowed pills of cyanide capsule and shot himself in the head. Before taking the pills he gave one to his dogs to see if they worked. This killed the dogs along with Hitler.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    V-E day means victory at war and at home. On this day Europe surrendered their military and were taken over.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    US dropped a bomb on Japan and whipped out 90% of the city. 80,000 people were immediately killed and thousands later died. 3 days later another bomb was dropped and killed 40,000 people.
  • Nagasaki

    Nagasaki
    A second bomb was dropped in Japan by the US. The domb brought Japan to surrender and wave their white flag. This happened three days after Hiroshima.
  • Hirohito Surrenders

    Hirohito Surrenders
    Hirohito/Japan surrendered and gave up their military forever. There was an agreement that US would be Japan’s military. This brought world war 2 to a complete end.
