    William Golding is born in Cornwall, England

    Golding gets a book of his poems published by his friend from Oxford, Adam Bittleston

    He began to teach philosophy and English as Schoolmaster from 1939-1945 and then switched to just teaching English from 1945-1961at Bishop Wordsworth's School

    Golding marries Ann Brookfield in 1939 and they later went on to have 2 kids named Judith and David

    Golding wrote his first novel in 1954 called "Lord of the Flies" after multiple rejections from publishers

    Other novels that he wrote include "The Inheritors", "Pincher Martin", "Free Fall", "The Spire", "The Pyramid", and "The Scorpion God". These novels were all wrote from 1956-1971.
  • Success of his writing

    In 1979, he won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and in 1980 won the Booker Prize. In 1988 Golding was appointed a "Knight Bachelor".

    On June 19th, 1993, Golding died of heart failure in Perranarworthal, Cornwall, England.
