    William Carlos Williams was born in Rutherford, New Jersey to his two parents, William George and Raquel Helene.
  • Edgar Irving Williams Birth

    Edgar Irving Williams was the 13 month younger brother to William. He has been said to have a great influence to the writer and was one of the reasons William began writing.
  • William Carlos Williams Attends Medical School

    William is enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and takes courses to become a pediatrician. He graduates in 1906. He keeps a job in New York City (30 minute commute) as a pediatrician for as long as he writes poetry.

    Williams sells about 4 copies of his privately printed anthology "Poems" at a local store.
  • William Marries Florence

    William Carlos Williams married Florence Herman after her older sister rejected him. They had two boys, William Eric Williams and Paul Joseph Williams.
  • "The Others."

    This was an art group that worked on modernizing art and spreading cheer throughout World War I, but was founded by Man Ray and Alfred Kreymborg. There is no known date for when the organization was created, but it was sometime in the heat of the war. Some of the other members were Walter Conrad Arensberg, Wallace Stevens, Mina Loy, Marianne Moore and Duchamp along with Williams.

    Williams his first award for his literature. He received the National Book Award for Poetry.
  • William Carlos Williams Dies

    After having a heart attack the continuous strokes and depression finally killed him. He even served time in a mental hospital in 1953, because of his condition. He is now buried in The Hillside Cemetery in New Jersey.
  • Pulitzer Award

    The Pulitzer Award was given to him for his work in Pictures from Brueghel and Other Poems. Along with the Gold Medal for Poetry of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. The Poetry Society of America honors William Carlos Williams by presenting an annual award in his name for the best book of poetry published.
  • New Jersey Hall of Fame

    William Carlos Williams was elected into the New Jersey Hall of Fame due to his literature and modification of poetry. There is no clear date of when he was put into the Hall of Fame, but it was from 2008-2009.
