    Thomas Kuhn is Born
    Thomas Kuhn is born in Cincinnati, Ohio July 18th, 1922. He earns a masters degree in physics from Harvard in 1946 and his Ph.D. in the history of science in 1949. He begins teaching the philosophy of science in various prestigious institutions beginning in 1956 and continuing through 1991.
  • Kuhn's First Book

    Kuhn's First Book
    Thomas Kuhn publishes his first book, "The Copernican Revolution"(1), in 1957. The book centers on the heliocentric theory of the universe which originated in the renaissance. The heliocentric theory explains how the sun sits at the center of the universe while the other planets revolve around it. The book mainly covers its controversial development in those early days.

    Kuhn's Major Development
    Thomas Kuhn broke barriers of thought with his book "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions"(2). In this book he describes what is known as paradigms, or conceptual world views, constituted by experiments, theories, and world views at the time. He discerned that a scientific revolution is a paradigm shift or change, when a new paradigm replaces an old one. This would forever impact the philosophy of science due to it's effect on how the scientific world and history would be viewed.

    Kuhn's later works and death
    Thomas Kuhn's later works were a compilation of various essays. He published "The Essential Tension"(3) in 1957, and published "Black Body Theory and the Quantum Discontinuity"(4) in 1978. Thomas Kuhn passed away on June 16, 1996. He will be forever remembered in the philosophy of science community for his arguing that the current paradigm influences what work scientists do and a paradigm shift produces new thoughts, evidence, and work.
