Voting Rights in the United States

  • Constitution is Ratified

    Only white males who also were land owners were allowed to vote.
  • Religious qualifications dropped

    White men of different religions were allowed to vote. They no longer had to meet religious stndards. They still were required to own property.
  • Property requirements dropped

    White men didn't need to own property in order to vote. Property and tax requirements were removed
  • 15th Amendment

    All male slaves are allowed to vote despite their race.
  • 19th Amendment

    Women are guarenteed the right to vote.
  • 23rd Amendment

    Citizens in the District of Columbia are given the right to vote in the Presidential election.
  • 24th Amendment

    Stops Congress and states from enforcing a poll tax on citizens. Citizens can vote without having to pay.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Racial Discrimination is prohibited by the state, federal, and local governments. Backing up the 15th Amendment.
  • 26th Amendment

    Citizens 18 and older were now allowed to vote. If they were old enough to die they were old enough to vote
