Victor Jara was born on September 28, 1932. He was born in Lonquen, Chile. Jara was born to Amanda Martinez and Manuel Jara.

During Victor Jara’s young years as a child his siblings, and himself had to collect firewood. They also had to cut down small trees with an axe. They lastly had to take care of the pigs that they raised.

To make more money Jara’s family rented a room. They rented the room to a local schoolteacher. The schoolteacher also knew how to play the guitar , and so she taught Victor how to play a few chords and much more about the guitar.

Victor Jara’s father had a drinking problem. After several years of unhappiness his father moved to the country. Which left his mother to take care of him and his siblings all alone.

Victor Jara’s mother died when he was 15 years old. His mother died in 1947. Jara was devastated when his mom died. After his mothers death he started to look for help.

In 1965 Victor and Joan raised/had a child named Amanda Jara. They also raised Manuela Jara. Manuela was born before Joan and Victor got married. Manuela was born during Joan’s former marriage. They had two boys. The two boys names were Roberto Jara and Eduardo Jara.

On September 11, 1973, residents of Santiago, Chile awoke to chaos. Fighter jets were bombing the president’s palace, tanks had taken to the streets and ordinary Chileans were being rounded up and tortured in the city’s sports stadiums. One of those detained was folk singer Victor Jara.

On September 16, 1973 Victor Jara was assassinated. He died from getting tortured and he was then shot and killed. Jara was killed by Chilean Security forces.
