Hiram Ulysses Grant had to change his name when he was put into USMA a Military Academy at West Point, New York. Congressman Thomas L. Hamer thought that his name was Ulysses Simpson Grant instad of Hiram Ulysses Grant, so when Hiram tryed to change back his name they wouldn't allow it. If Hiram wantedto stay in USMA, he would have to change his name.
