    Ukrainian Independence
    The Ukraine declared its independence January 16th of 1918. Whilst Russia was facing a torment all their own as the Bolshevik(later renamed the Communist Party) fought to overthrow the Russian Empire. Almost immediately after the overthrow of the Czar of Russia, the Ukraine set up their own government and declared itself to be a Republic within the federation of Russia, and in November after the Bolshevik party took control of the Russian Empire the Ukraine declared itself an independent nation.

    In December of 1991 the Soviet Union met it’s end when it split into 15 separate countries. The Soviet Union was dependant on the many areas incontrol out of the Russian areas under their control. This collapse would start with an uprising in Estonia, which created a domino effect. Once one country demanded it’s independance the rest shortly followed. 11 of the soviet republics gathered in Alma-Ata a Kazakh city to announce their establishment as a Commonwealth Of Independant States.

    NATO and the Warsaw Pact were originally formed as an organized defense against an attack on any or all countries involved in the agreement. NATO which was meant as a defense mechanism to the growing communist powers. While the Warsaw Pact was used a retaliation to the NATO agreement. But throughout the late 80’s the anti-communist regime within Eastern Europe began ripping countries within in the Warsaw Pact and into the NATO agreement.

    Members of rival Warsaw Pact 1945-1991 Due to the lack of support the Warsaw Pact disbanded on March 31st of 1991. Through the next decade many of the former members of the Warsaw pact would join NATO.

    Russo-Georgian War

    In 2008 Georgian forces went across the border of Ossentia a region of Georgia that has gone as an independant area since the disbandment of the Soviet Union. The next day Russian forces began their offensive on the Georgian powers, over the next 48 hours the russians defeated the Georgian forces, pushing them into a retreat. Russians then went on to attack Georgia on 2 axes, with the intent of cutting off the Georgian capital city to its ports.

    Russian Annexation of Crimea

    In February of 2014 Putin began his well planned descent on Crimea; a former peninsula of the Ukraine. Sending in an unidentified task force to take control of several government buildings within Crimea. Within a month of the takeover Putin signed the treaty to annex Crimea, and has since turned it into a russian forward operating base.
