The "Peoples Will" successfully assassinated Tsar Alexander iii's father in 1881. They had planned numerous but unsuccessful assassinations of Tsar Alexander iii. Aleksandr Ulyanov (one of the conspirators) was caught during one of the attempts and then later sentenced to death, and then hung.
