In 1941, Japan bombed Pear Harbor. The United States who had remained neutral during the war had declared war on Japan. Afterwards Germany and Italy declared war on the United States.

The Allies began to win the war after 1943. They invaded areas controlled by the axis. The Germans were attacked and their troops were overwhelmed. This led to their unconditional surrender and Hitler's suicide in 1945. Following this the other axis powers also surrendered.

Following the end of WWII, Europeans lost much of their power, wealth, and status. The US created the Marshall plan that would provide aid for the strengthening of capitalism and economy in Europe.

After WWII, the US and Soviets became engaged in the Cold War. The NATO(1949) and Warsaw Pact (1955) were both two military alliances that were formed after WWll to protected the hegemony of the US and soviets. The Warsaw Pact was created as a response to NATO.
