In 1912 Alfred Wegener had noticed that the west African coastline and the east coast of America had appeared to fit together. With this he developed the theory that all continents were once part of a super continent called Pangaea. He presented his hypothesis to the German Geological Society on this date. Alfred Wegener had evidence that proved the occurence of continental drift. He found that there were matching fossils of reptile on South America and Africa and fossils of a fern on the two continents and India. He also discovered that certain mountain ranges on different continents lined up. He found evidence of a different climate than what it should be on the continents.
