The Essential Tension is a book made up of two essays written by Thomas Kuhn. In the 1950's, Kuhn presented his analysis called the "Essential tension between tradition and innovation". This analysis became the primary factor in Kuhn's phase model of scientific development. The purpose of this book was to explain the importance of tradition when it comes to scientific research. -

Thomas Kuhn's final study was on Max Planck's black body radiation theory. He wrote the book called Black-Body Theory and the Quantum Discontinuity to argue against Max Planck's 1900 and 1901 quantum papers by using historical scientific research. -
