    Thomas Samuel Kuhn was born to Samuel L. Kuhn and Minette Stroock Kuhn in Cincinnati Ohio, 18 July 1922. Kuhn's father was an engineer, and both parents were of Jewish descent.

    Kuhn finished his primary education at The Taft School in Watertown, CT. He went on to attend Harvard University, where he pursued his interest in science and math. He completed a BS in physics in 1943. He then went on to achieve a MS of physics in 1946 and a PhD of The History of Science in 1949.

    Kuhn's first book was entitled "The Copernican Revolution" published in 1957. In his writing, Kuhn explores the thought and development of the heliocentric theory of the universe. He focuses heavily on the incommensurability of Aristotle's ideology versus the newer concept of Newtonian Physics.

    Kuhn's most famous, influential, and also controversial work is "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions". Kuhn present in this book his most famous notion of "Paradigms" and "Paradigm Shifts". Kuhn believed that science is defined by paradigms, or conceptual groupings of theories, trusted experiments etc...The paradigm is then refined and worked until a crisis is reached. A crisis can only be overcame by a revolution which replaces the old paradigm, or a "paradigm shift"
