In 1977 Kuhn publishes his essays which collectively he called "the Essential Tension". He shares his opinions on the importance of questioning what we currently know and whether there are any inconsistencies to be found. Kuhn advocates for questioning the old methods and whether it's time to abandon them and find improved methods. Kuhn describes old process and new process as a tension that facilitates improvements.
