    The heliocentric theory

    The heliocentric theory
    The heliocentric theory was first brought up by Nicolaus Copernicus, a Polish scientist. In 1543 he came up with a theory that the Sun was stationary, and in the center of the solar system, and the Earth and all the other planets revolve around it. This theory is true, so thanks to Copernicus, The people of the 21st century, now know the truth.

    The stocking frame was invented by William Lee, who was, acording by legend, a reverend in Nottinghamshire. It was invented in 1589. It was used for frame work knitting. This machine made knitting easier. It was used to make gloves, mittens, scarfs, hats, stockings, and many other small apparel.

    The thermometer was invented by Galileo Galilei. The invention was made up of a glass bulb and water, which would go up in down when the temperature changed. There are many other thermometers that were invented, but Galileo's was the very first one. Today we use thermometers everyday, and without Galileo's invention we would've never been able to know the temperature outside.

After hearing that another man was making a telescope-like invention, he decide that he wanted to make something like that too. He worked long and hard for 24 hours, despite not knowing what the other man's invention looked like!

    The coal burning oven was invented by John Sibthorpe of England. He invented it in the year 1635. The coal was used as a fuel to power this machine, unlike us now, because we use electricity or gas powered ovens. It was very efficient, because they could make new foods with this new invention.

    Sir Isaac Newton was the inventor of the reflecting telescope in 1669. He invented it because he thought he could get a more focused view with an invention like this. Though people had thought about making something like this, like James Gregory in 1663, it was never done, until he made the first actual reflecting telescope.

    The pressure cooker was invented by Denis Papin, in 1679. He called it "Papin's Digester". The pot was keept airtight and was really hot, which steamed vegetables and other foods. It also preserved nutrients. Today we use pressure cookers to cook many different types of foods.

    The tuning fork was invented by John Shore in 1711. He was a renowned musician, and he made instruments. H ewas also a trumpeter for the English Royal Court. The tuning fork vibrates when it is struck to give a specific pitch and note. It works in various weather conditions, so it was very useful. The tuning fork is even used today.
