Canada controlled its own foreign affairs and didn't have to autmoatically go to war when Britain did. Canada declared war on Germany on thi sdate. King had warned Hitler in 1937 that Canada would be involved. They joined forces with the Allies. -

Russia invaded Poland on September 17, 1939 and there was no fighting from here on until the spring on 1940. -

The Battle of Britain
Hitler's attention was on Britain but Britain was prepared. The Royal Air Force fought against the German Air Force over Britain. Churchill ordered a bomber raid on Berlin so Hitler ordered a daylight bombing raid on London. Germany had failed and the RAF won the Battle. Ended in September of 1940. -

The Nazis invaded Russia with the larget military attack of the war. -
The Attack on Pearl Harbour
Japan wanted more but the U.S. stood in their way. On this day, Japan launched an air raid against the U.S. Naval headquaters in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii unexpectedly. The U.S. declared war on Japan on the side of the Allies
