Catherine the Great was born a German princess in the city of Stettin, Germany on May 2, 1729. -
Marriage
Catherine married Peter Fedorovich (the future Emperor Peter |||) on 21 August, 1745 in Saint Petersburg. -
Ascent to the trone
In 1762, Catherine led the army against Peter and removed him from the throne. She took over as Empress of Russia, calling herself Catherine II. -
