    Catherine the Great was born a German princess in the city of Stettin, Germany on May 2, 1729.
  • Marriage

    Catherine married Peter Fedorovich (the future Emperor Peter |||) on 21 August, 1745 in Saint Petersburg.
  • Ascent to the trone

    In 1762, Catherine led the army against Peter and removed him from the throne. She took over as Empress of Russia, calling herself Catherine II.
  • The Legislative Commission

    Headed by the Legislative Commission in 1767-1769. This commission promised to protect their religious rights, but didn't do so.
