    Elvis Aaron Presley is born in Tupelo, Mississippi to proud parents Vernon and Gladys Presley. Elvis was actually an identical twin, however his brother Jessie Garon Presley was stillborn.
  • Elvis records his first demo

    Having graduated high school, Elvis was working at a machinist shop. He visited The Memphis Recording Studio, home of the Sun Recordings, where he made a demo of "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin".
  • Elvis signs his first contract

    Elvis Presley signed his first contract with RCA Records for an unprecedented $40,000 with a $5,000 bonus.
    Having performed on the Louisiana Hayride the previous year, Elvis met a promotor called Tom Parker. He would become Elvis' exclusive manager in August 1955.

    RCA Records released Elvis' first album: 'Elvis Presley'.
    Included in the album is Elvis's first single "Heartbreak Hotel". Having been released earlier in the year, the single sold over 300,000 copies, earning Presley his first gold record award.

    The Graceland mansion is purchased by Elvis for himself, his parents and grandmother.
  • Elvis joins the U.S Army

    Elvis joins the U.S Army
    Elvis reports to the Memphis Draft Board, where he is assigned the serial number 53 310 761. Presley is then sent to Ft Chaffee, Arkansas, and then to Fort Hood, Texas. Following basic training, Elvis remains and spends six months on duty.
    Presley would then be officially discharged on March 5th 1960.

    Elvis’ film, Viva Las Vegas, opens nationally. The film features Elvis with co-star Ann-Margret. Viva Las Vegas goes to #14 at the box office. By the end of the year, it is #11, outranking The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night and becoming Elvis’ highest grossing film ever, with revenues of $5.5 million by 1969.
