  • Childhood

    -Ben Carson states in his National Prayer Breakfeast speech: "I had a mother that believed in me and never allowed herself to be a victim."
    -Carson once wrote, "I was a horrible student...Most of my classmates thought I was the stupidest person in the world"(Carson xviii).
    -Carson expands on his mothers impact: "God gave her wisdom...it was to turn off the TV...read two books apiece from the Detroit Public Libraries.."(Carson xix).
  • Success begins to Appear

    -Carson writes," I actually began to enjoy reading those books, because we were very poor. But between the covers...I could be anybody...I came to understand that I had control over my own destiny"(Carson xx).
    -Carson states, " When I was a student at Southwestern High School..my lackluster academic performance during the early years had completely reversed and I was a quintessential nerd"(Carson 35).
    - Carson became one of the best students in his high school after a change in mentality.
  • Life as a Surgeon

    -Carson won a scholarship to Yale, followed by medical school at the University of Michigan. At 33, Carson became the youngest physician to head a major division at Johns Hopkins(Anne Clarrissmeaux, "Never Give Up").
    -In 1987, he led a team of 69 medical professionals in achieving a first: successfully separating conjoined twins who were attached at the back of their heads(Anne Clarrissmeaux, "Never Give Up").
  • Run at the Presidency

    -Ben Carson officially announces that he will run for office on May 4th 2015.
    - Carson states in an interview, " I remember specifically the president saying, 'The United States is not a Judeo-Christian nation.' But it is. You look at our documents, you look at our monuments, you look at just about everything,..it talks about God, our relationship with Him" (Beth Patch, CBN network).
