    Abigail Adams is Born
    On November 11, 1744, Abigail Smith (Adams) is born in Weymouth, Massachusetts to Elizabeth Quincy Smith and Reverend William Smith. She is their second child born. Her mother, Elizabeth Quincy Smith, spent her time visiting the sick and bringing food, clothing and firewood to needy families. Abigail picked up on her mother's kind work by accompioning her. Her father was Pastor of Weymouth's North Parish Congregational Church, and he taught Abigail to help others and to respect God.

    On October 25th, 1764, Abigail's father presented the wedding of is daughter to John Adams. After the marriage, the couple moved into a house inherited by John's father. They lived in Braintree, Massachusetts where they first started their lives together.

    On July 14th, 1765, Abigail and John's first child is born. Her name is Abigail Adams, however, she goes by "Nabby". She will later die of cancer on August 9th, 1813.

    On July 11th, 1767, John Quincy Adams is the scond child born to Abigail and Jonn Adams. LIke his father, he was into politics. He will later become the sixth President of the United States. He will also become the first President who was the son of a President.
  • "Remember the Ladies"

    "Remember the Ladies"
    On March 31st, 1776, Abigail Adams wirtes a letter to John Adams while he is Philadelphia serving as the Massachusetts representative to the Continental Congress. In her letter, she urges John to "remember the ladies". This refures to the men in the Continental Congress to not forget about fighting for women's rights along side men's rights when it coms to fighting for independence from Britian. This was important becasue this was a time when women were seem as simply domestic.

    On April 14th, 1776, Abigail Adams writes another letter to John Adams while he is away in Philidelphia. In this letter, she stands up for women, and disagrees with what the government has said about them. She also states that women "dare not exert our power in its full latitude".

    On May 7th, 1776, Abigail writes another letter in reply to John Adams. In this letter, she says that she does not think John is being very "generous to the ladies". She also tells him that a man's ruling power over a woman can easily be broken. She warns him that women have the power to "not only to free ourselves, but to subdue our masters, and without violence, throw both your natural and legal authority at our feet".

    Abigail Adams Becomes the Second First Lady of the United States
    On March 4th, 1797, John Adams' inauguration occures. This marks the beginning of his four year term in office as the nations second President. This also means that Abigail Adams is now the second First Lady of the United States.

    On November 1st, 1800, John Adams moves into the White House. Abigail joins him in Washington later that month. They are the first President and First Lady to ever live in the White House.
  • Abigail's Death

    Abigail's Death
    On October 28th, 1818, Abigail Adams passes away in her home in Quincy, Massachusetts. Just earlier in the month, she contracted typhiod fever. She dies surrounded by family members, and forever leaves her legacy about the fight for women's rights.
