Jane Austen was born in Steventon, England to George and Cassandra Austen. She was the second out of seven children.

It is thought that around this time Jane started writing short stories and poems. Later, these are referred to as her "Juvenilia."

After the death of her father in 1805, Jane Austen eventually moved with her mother and sisters to Chawton, England. There, she revisited Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.
