Gatsby bought his house in East Egg so that Daisy would be just across the bay where her house was. Gatsby gave lavish parties to attract Daisy to one of them but this never happened. Daisy was Nick´s cousin, and Nick was Gatsby neighbor. Nick´s house was perfectly prepared for the meeting with Gatsby.

  • Nick meeting with Tom in the street

Nick came across Tom in the street, although he tried to avoid him. Tom, as arrogant as ever, offended Nick because he did not shake his hand. At that time, Nick learnt that Tom had an important role in Gatsby´s death, and he stated that what he had done was entirely justified. Nick realized that his life had been forced to a new level of maturity.
Tom was only a child and Daisy and Tom were carelessly, using people as objects and then getting on with their lives.
