Graveyard book1

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

  • Nobody "Bod" Owens

    Nobody "Bod" Owens
Bod is probably one of the strangest kids you will ever meet. He was raised by ghosts, vampires and werewolves. Not to mention that he can walk through walls and communicate to the dead, so his life is far from normal. Also his family was murdered and the killer is still looking for him. Bod also must deal with a lot of hardships along the way, although he does make some friends worth keeping.
  • The Owens

    The Owens
Mr. and Mrs. Owens have been married for over 250 years and their one regret is that they didn't have children, that's why they were so willing to "adopt" Bod when he had nowhere else to go.
  • Silas

    Silas
Silas is Bod's guardian, he takes care of all Bod's basic needs. He is part of the living word- and also part of the dead, making it easy for Silas to leave the graveyard to get Bod food, water, ect. It is unknown what creature Silas actually is, but there are hints throughout the book (my guess is that he's a vampire). Bod doesn't mind at all as Silas is his hero.
  • Miss Lupescu

    Miss Lupescu
Miss Lupescu first appeares in the book when Silas has to leave the graveyard for a while. She was Bod's guardian until Silas returned. She's very strict, and teaches Bod how to call out for help in many different languages. Later on, Bod finds out that Miss Lupescu is actually a werewolf- when the Ghouls try to drag Bod into the underworld, it's Miss Lupescu who saves him. Although, she dies while trying to kill one of the Jacks.
  • Liza Hempstock

    Liza Hempstock
Liza is a witch who was buried outside of the graveyard on "unconsecrated ground". Also known as he Potter's field. Liza explains to Bod that she was accused of witchcraft and burned to death 500 some years ago. When Bod first meets Liza, he finds that she has no gravestone and he decides to make her one. Liza occompanies Bod on many of his great adventures and is a dear friend to him.

  • Scarlett Amber Perkins

Scarlett isn't that big of a character in the book-as she only appears twice-but she has a pretty big impact on Bod. When Bod was four, he met Scarlett and went on very big and exciting adventures with her. Unfortunately, Scarlett moves to Scotland with her parents but appears later on in the book.
  • Mr. Frost

    Mr. Frost
Mr. Frost works at the graveyard. One day, Scarlett wonders into his workshop while he is working on a tombstone.
Mr. Frost offers to give Scarlett a ride home - which she agrees to- and Scarlett tells Mr. Frost that he is living in her friend's (Bod) old home in where his parents and older sister were killed. Later in in the story, Mr. Frost tells Bod that he's the one who killed his family, and that he's a part of a species called the Jacks that gain power by killing people.
