  • Berlin Airlift

    When the Soviet Union had cut off West Germany and West Berlin, Stalin was attempting to cut off Germany from westward countries. Britain had flown in food and resources to still help people that were cut off in Berlin that were suffering under Stalin's rule.
  • NATO

    NATO (The North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was established to stop the further spread of communism in other countries. America and 11 other countries were included in this pact.
  • Korean War

    The Korean war had begun fighting against North and South Korea. Stalin had helped support North Korea and gave them military goods in the war.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The Soviet Union had signed this pact to counteract NATO. The Soviet Union had created this pact and made most of the decisions that also held power over Poland, Hungary, etc. trying to keep the peace.
  • Sputnick

    Sputnick

    Russia had launched the world's first successful satellite into orbit called Sputnick. America had seen this as a competition on technology initiating the space race.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Soviet Union had established a base that were creating missiles in Cuba. President Truman had panicked and sent in ships to blockade Cuba in creating more tension between the U.S. and the Soviets. Eventually, the Soviets had decided to withdrawal their missiles.
  • Vietnam War

    America had become involved in the Vietnam war in order of helping stop the spread of communism in their country. The Soviets supported communist North Vietnam. This created a proxy war between America and the Soviet Union.
  • Apollo 11

    Apollo 11

    Apollo 11 was America's first successful rocket holding men to the moon. This was major in the new technological advances in the space race between the U.S. and the Soviets. It was lead by the first man on the moon, Niel Armstrong.
  • Non-Proliferated Treaty

  • Soviet Afgahn War

    The Soviets invaded Afghanistan and lead their military troops to fight against mujahideen. This created another proxy war clashing the Soviet's beliefs with America. America supported helping the country by supplying food and resources.
  • Perestroika and Glasnost

    Gorbachev launched a dramatic new course for the soviets. This program led to the fall of the soviet union and was now instead split into 15 different republics. This brought to the end of the cold war. It was a plan of "Restructuring" and "Openness".
  • Berlin Wall Falls

    The Berlin Wall falls when Gorbachev decides to abandon his satellite states in order to save his own nation. The new leader Egon Krenz didn't believe in violence and eased tensions by letting them travel freely through the borders.
  • End of The Cold War

    The Soviet Union had officially crumbled and created multiple different republics under the new rule of Krenz. It had finally signified the end to everything in the cold war from the arms race to nuclear weapons, etc.
