Potsdam Conference
I was held in Potsdamn Germany to negotiate the end of World War II. It was the United States, Germany, and the Soviet Union. They wanted Germany to settle down and surrender. -
Formation of the United Nations
This was brought about becuase the Legue of Nations decided that it would be a good idea. It was decided to be used by the treaty of Versaille. -
Iron Curtain Decended on Europe
This was stated by Winston Churchill. Iron Curtain is a military term or barrier. It slowly deminished and finally after Joesph Stalins death it was completly let up. -
Truman Doctrine
It was an international relations Policy made by the President of the United states at the time, Truman. Historians say that it is a possible start of the Cold War. It as the foundation of the foreign policy for presidents. -
Marshall Plan
From 1945-1947 America was aiding in the recovery of Europe. But in 1948 the President thought they should do something more. He thought that Marshall was a good man in the military so he decided to honor him while helping Europe. -
Creation of Israel
It was made by President Rooselvelt in 1948. It was for the Arabs to feel as if the U.S. was there without really interveining. They had the rights to protect Palasine but still had some help now. -
Berlin Air Lift
Caused by Germany being split up by some of the Allied coutries. Germany was in a terrible place. They barely had any food. So they looked to the Allies to help them. -
Formation of NATO
NATO is still in exsisitence even after the end of The Cold War. This was formed when the Western Nations decided to all work together. America needed a more militairiatic way. -
Vietnam War
Longest war America has ever fought in. America joined the war and lost tons of soliders. This war was over in April of 1975. -
Korean War
North Korea started it by invading South Korea. They are still fighting today. But, theyve had there on and off periods of time. -
Stalin Dies
He was the leader of the Soviet Union during part of the Cold War. He died while it was still going. Killed many of his own people. -
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
The treaty entered into force in 1970 so thats when it was actually considered. A total of 190 states were entered into this treaty. Its withdrawl was annouced in 2003. -
Warsaw Pact formed
It was a military compliment. A soviet militarty part in West Germany, It was part of the start of the end of the Cold War on the USSR part. -
NASA Formed
NASA is a space program in the United States. There was a space program at the time but America wanted a bigger and beter one so they created NASA. It was created in hopes to beat out the Soviet Union. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
A failed military invasion of Cuba. It was undertaken by the CIA in April 1961. It actually ended up strengthening the power of Fidel Castro. -
Berlin Wall Construction
Barrier Constructed by the German Democratic Republic. So that it completely cut off the East Berlin from West Germany. The Eastern part of Germany proclaimed that it was built to protect the its citizens from the facsits ideas. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Lasted for 13 days of the Cold War. Started from the Russians sitting in the bay buy America and they sat there waiting. This was Fidel Castros threats against America. -
Kennedy is Assassinated
He was assassinated in Dallas Texas. H was shot by a sniper while standing right next to his wife and another lady. It was reported that his wife had to go to the vice presidents initiation with his brain matter still on her. -
Uss Pueblo Incident
Lasted for 11 months. Happened during the partol of the Navys. What it was was a ship that was capured by North Korea. -
Salt I & Salt II Agreements
I could not fid an exact date.
SALT I lead to a nagotiantion between two contries. The U.S. chose to not ratify it. And eventually in 1986 to back out. -
UN Resolution 2758
It was passed from an American resoultion that required Chinas representation is the UN. It effective changed what China was doing in the United Nations. -
Nixon visits China
This visit lasted around a week and it was the first time in over two decades that America has been allowed to see pictures of China. What they talked about was the PCR. -
Paris Peace Accords
Was not okayed by the US sentate. The two men involved were given Noble Peace Prizes for there efforts. This stoped the fighting of North and South Korea at the time. -
South Vietnam falls
In 1975 South Vietnam fell to North Vietnam. This was a result of North Vietnams attack on the South two day prior to the fall of South Vietnam. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
A group of 52 american diplomats was held hostage for 444 days.They were held by an Iranian student group. Belonging to the Muslims Student followers of the Lmams Line. -
USSR invades Afghanistan
Lasted 9 years. The Untied States aided in this war by giving them weapons and money. This war resulted in many afgans fleeing their country and going to places like Pakistan -
U.S. And Soviet Union start to Boycott the Olympics
This still goes on today and has happend. In Olymics held by the US after the Cold War started the the Soviet Union has not attend, This recent games the US did attend but they were kind of scared the whole time. -
Korean Airline Flight 007
Was scheduled to go out of New York City. This flght was shot down. All 269 passengers and airline assistants were killed, -
U.S. invades Grenada
Outside of the US it was viewed as a negetive. When in reality it heloed to cange the governemtnt to a demcratic and help the people feel more free. -
Chernobyl disaster
Catastrophic neuclear accident. It realeased a very large amout of particles with a lot of radioactive properties. It spread over much of the USSR and parts of the Western parts of Europe. -
Iran Contra Affair
In November of 1986 a political scandal took place. It was the Iran Contra Affair. It was caused becuase of the hostages and the us officers. -
Tinannamen Square Massacre
Chinease Troops storm thorugh bejing killing and massacreing even arresting some of people. They were killing the protestors of the Chinease communist parties. -
Dissolving of the Soviet Union
This signaled the ending of the Cold War. The Soviet Union finally gave up on the fighting with the US. The political unrest was now over there is only a slight tension between the two counties.
