    NATO was an organization created by the West to make sure they had a defense against Russia if they ever invaded. This included Western Europe and America. Tensions were really high because the Soviets were unpredictable as ever.

    North Korea invaded South Korea. America rushed in to aid South Korea, and they were able to establish and armistice. The Korean leaders from both sides are actually meeting today to discus peace, and everyone is hoping for the best.

    He was the leader of the Soviets until his death in 1953. He was very pro communist and wanted to spread it around the world. America hated this dude.

    The U.S. and the Soviet Union struggled to get better military than the other. They developed nuclear weapons and stuff like that. They both spent tons of money on their military.

    Britain, France and Israeli countries moved troops into Egypt. They nearly brought the Soviets into the conflict, and they damaged their relationships with the US. They did this because the Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized the canal.

    Fidel Castro marched his guerrilla army into Havana, Cuba. They overthrew Fulgencio Batista. American trained Cubans tried to overthrow Castro, but they were badly outnumbered and surrendered 24 hours in.

    An American plane was shot down. It was a U-2 spy plane, hence the name of the incident. The Soviets shot the plane down.

    Russia closed off their side of Berlin from the allies. They wanted to keep the land that they took during World War Two. This action symbolized the spread of communism and the Iron Curtain.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a point where the USA and Russia became very close to nuclear warfare. Cuba allowed Russia to put nukes on their country. With the press of a button, America would be destroyed. America would fire theirs at Russia, and the world would end.

    The U.S., Britain and the Soviet Union signed this Treaty. This banned nuclear testing in space, the atmosphere and underwater. John F. Kennedy signed the treaty just months before his death.

    The ease of tensions between the U.S. and the Soviets. The word is French. This commenced when American president Nixon visited the Soviet leader, Leonid I. Brezhnev.

    The Soviet Union was finally dissolved. It is now led by "president" Vladimir Putin. The Soviets were facing starvation and they couldn't keep up with anyone else so it was dissolved.
