  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Stahlin, the leader of the Soviet Union, decided the the other allied powers needed to come to his terms, so he closed off his part of Berlin, so they couldn't get supplies. This started the Berlin Airlift, aided by the United States, which brought food and other supplies to the people of Berlin.
  • North Atlantic Treaty Organization

    North Atlantic Treaty Organization
    The majority of the Eastern European countries as well as the United States band together to form NATO, which was formed with the idea of preventing the same circumstances that had caused World War 2. If one of the countries included was attacked, it was considered a threat to all of them.
  • Second Red Scare

    Second Red Scare
    Also known as McCarthyism, Senator McCarthy started telling people he had a list of people work in the United States Department that practiced communism. He very often accused people without having all of the facts, and ruined some peoples stature.
  • Warsaw Pact Formed

    As a response to NATO, the Soviet Union and other Eastern European countries formed the Warsaw Pact.
  • Space Race

    Space Race
    The Soviet Unions launches the first of two "Sputnik" missles that had the potential to carry missles into space. About a month later the second one was launched with a dog inside proving that life could go into space.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    More than 1400 Cuban Exiles who were given American weapons waded in the bay of pigs to hopefully overtun the new Cuban Government. Out of all of those people more than 100 of them were killed, while a majority of the rest were kept hostage, and the United States had to wage with them to get them back.

    The Soviet Union decided to make another effort at seperating East Germany from the west by building the Berlin Wall. The wall wasn't build to keep thier enemies out. It was built to keep people in to follow thier rules of communism.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The U.S. spies picked up a visual of the Soviet Union building missile sites in Cuba. President Kennedy put the Soviet Union on blast, so everyone knew what they were trying to do. The United States started blocking of ships from the Soviet Union, so they could try to search them before they were let into Cuban docks.

    End of Cuban Missile Crisis
    After a 13 day stand of the leader of both countries came to an agreement saying that the Soviet Union had to remove thier missiles from Cuba, and the United States had to remove thier no longer functioning missiles from Turkey.

    The United States takes the lead in the Space Race by safely landing two astronauts on the moon in Apollo 11, and the other astronaut orbits the moon alone.

    After a few years of hiding behind lies of not being included in the water gate scandal, which includes recording unauthorized converation to go against the democratic party, guilt takes over and he becomes the first president ever to resign from office.
