Potsdam Conference
From July 17 to August 2, 1945, Allied leaders gathered to demand the surrender of Japan and set up a framework for postwar Europe. Each leader was trying to get the strongest position and the most influence for his own country, but the countries fell into two camps. The Potsdam Conference set up a competition between capitalist Western powers (the United States and Great Britain) and the communist-controlled Soviet Union. This rivalry grew into the Cold War. -
NATO/ Warsaw Pact
Both of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and Warsaw Pact are the organization constitutes a system of collective defense whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party.
The NATO’s headquarters are located in Belgium, Brussels, and Daren. And the headquarters of Warsaw Pact are in Moscow, Soviet Union. -
Korean War
Korean War ( June 1950 to July 1953) the war between North Korea and South Korea. It started with the attack from North Korea in south ward. China and U.S. were involved into the war after. And the U.S. was on South Korean side and China was on North Korean side. In 1951, both of the sides were started the peace talk. In July 1953, the war finally stop by the result of 2,837,000 deaths. -
Vietnam War
Vietnam War (1955-1975) one of the biggest war during the cold war. It began with the civil war between Communist North Vietnam and communist South Vietnam . After North Vietnam attack the Gulf of Ton kin and lots of U.S. soldiers were died, the U.S. join the war completely. In 1968 the peace talk began but in 1969 when M.Nixon became the president he started to bomb North Vietnam. The war started again. After 10 years, the war end up with U.S. and South Vietnam loss and North Vietnam won. -
Suez Crisis
The Suez Crisis precipitated on July 26,1956, when the canal had been owned by Suez Canal Company. And the company is controlled by French and British interests. On October 29,1956, Israel invaded and toward to the canal. France and England wanted to have a peace talk, Israel agreed to send their soldiers out of the Egypt but the Egypt president didn’t agreed. Then the French and English army send the planes to control and final Israel got the canal. -
Sputnik/ Space Race
On October 4 1957, the Sputnik 1 the first artificial Earth satellite. It’s the one of the important things happened during the color war. The Sputnik 1 started the space race between United States and Soviet Union. And it also affected the Wall Street Crisis and Sputnik Crisis in United States. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Cuban Missile Crisis is the one of the most important cause of the cold war. After the WW2, the two winning countries US and USSR were represented the two different political ideas. US represented Capitalism and USSR represented the socialism. After a short period of time the Soviet Union were making r-12 bomb in Cuba. And the United States were started send army to Cuba. Both of the countries were beware each other. The Crisis were end when the both of the countries signed the agreement. -
Glasnost/Perestroika
In 1980s, Soviet Union was covered by all kinds of problems. The agricultural sector, began to fall apart. And the consumers were buying low-quality products. When Boris Yeltsin became the president, he published Glasnost and Perestroika to solve the problems of the countries.
