    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan consisted of a recovery plan for 17 countries in Europe after World War 2. The U.S. got involved because they wanted the countries to develope a stable democratic government and stay strong enough to fight off the outside countries led by communism. The plan included economic and military support given by the U.S.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    NATO is an intergovernment military alliance created by 28 states around the world. The alliance was created as a defence system for the states incase of attack. This organization was also created to promote world peace and prevent any other World War.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    War fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The U.S. supported South Vietnam in hopes of a stable democratic government. At first, the U.S. only sent military advisors and later on used propaganda to get involved and sent over 400,000 troops. This war was considered a loss for America as we suffered 57,000 casualties.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    War between South Korea with the UK and North Korea and China. The North developed a dictatorship and invaded the south. In response, the U.S. got involved and fought back the invasion back to the 38th parallel. As the U.S. began to invade North Korea, China got involved and sent 300,000 men into North Korea. The war ended in a stalemate at the 38th parallel as an armistice was signed.
  • Creation of the Warsaw Pact

    Creation of the Warsaw Pact
    A defense treaty between communist states of central and eastern Europe. These states include Russia, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Slovak, Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania. The soviet union created this pact to prevent any future invasion of Russia. The surrounding countries around Russia were to be used as a defence system from the rest of Europe.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    An unsuccessful military invasion of Cuba by the U.S. This invasion was carried out in hopes of overthrowing Fidel Castro. Only 1,500 American troops were sent to take over Cuba, as Cuba fought back with 25,000 military forces, 200,000 militia men, and 9,000 armed police men. Most of the American troops were killed or captured.
  • Berlin Wall Goes Up

    Berlin Wall Goes Up
    The Berlin Wall was created to prevent East Germany fleeing to West Germany. This is because after World War 2, parts of Berlin were seperated and ran by different countries. The seperation soon became a conflict as the differnt countries had disagreements with each other.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest to nuclear war in world history. An american spy plane spotted nuclear missile sites on the island of Cuba. Although it was obvious that the Cubans were planning on using nuclear warfare, the U.S. wanted to keep it secret that they knew about it. For about a week, the president andhis advisors talked about the crisis. A quarentine was sentenced on Cuba by the United States.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    This event was the start of German reunification. The wall that seperated Germany for over 20 years was finally destroyed by the German citizens. The Germans protested until the refugees from either side of the wall were let through and reunited with their families.
  • Fall of the Soviet Union

    Fall of the Soviet Union
    The Soviet Union was dissolved once the Soviet Union declared that all other countries in the Warsaw Pact were independent. The Leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, also resigned andclaimed that his office was "extrinct", The Soviet Union dissolved into 12 independant republics.
