    The Yalta conference is held and the Soviet Union has control of Eastern Europe, Russia,Britain and USA all attend, they They demilitarize Germany and split it into 4 sections. The Cold War begins.
  • End of WWII

    End of WWII
    The soviet army drove the Germans out of most of Eastern Europe. Hitler told his solders to fight to the death but many German soldiers surrendered. Yalta conference was held where they planned Germany’s defeat and occupation of the country. The soviet army had pushed through Germany and had surrounded Berlin. Hitler decided that they were going to lose the war and committed suicide, soon after Germany surrendered and on the 15th of August Japan surrenderd and the war was officially over.
  • The Atomic Bomb

    The Atomic Bomb
    The united states drops atomic bomb (little boy) on Hiroshima Japan. The bomb killed 66,000 people instantly and another 69,000 people died later from the effects of burns and radiation.
    The bomb destroyed everything within 2 miles of ground zero and had effects such as acid rain.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    The Soviet Union blocked United Nations railway, road and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under UN control. Their aim was to force the UN powers to allow the Soviet zone to start supplying Berlin with food and fuel, thereby giving the Soviets practical control over the entire city. In response the United Nations organized the Berlin aircraft to sent supplies directly to Berlin and it was a success.
  • Begining of the Korean War

    Begining of the Korean War
    North Korea wanted more power and went to war with South Korea with the help of the Soviet Union; the USA backed South Korea and supported them with navy and air force help. South Korea pushed forward and immediately thought about taking over all of Korea. The South Korean military crossed the 38th parallel and soon after so did the United Nations, one week later they reached the border of China and the north Koreans fled across the border, they didn’t think china would interfere but they did.
  • Civil Defence

    After the Soviet Union’s first atomic explosion and the Korean War the USA decided to enforce the Federal Civil Defence Administration, experts doubted that any physical protection from nuclear explosion would be effective. It involved them producing 112,000 shelters with a small budget.
  • KGB

    KGB
    The KGB was the security agency of the Soviet Union it was established to do things from suppressing religion to infiltrating the highest levels of government in the United States. They also controlled what information was made public and investigated crimes made by people that were against the government.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    During the Cold War the US and the Soviet Union and the USA were both trying to demonstrate their power and top each other in the space race, it was an opportunity to show their scientific accomplishments and compete for superiority. The Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first ever orbiting satellite which started the competition.
  • USA spy plane shot down over the soviet union

    The U-2A spy plane left the US on a mission to take photos of the Soviet Union’s ICBM sites, the Soviet Union was expecting the plane and were prepared to shoot it down. Soon after the plane was detected, they tried to intercept it using fighter aircraft but due to its altitude the attempts’ failed and it was eventually shot down by a missile.
  • The Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall
    The Berlin wall was built to divide West Berlin and East Berlin by the Soviet Union, Russia controlled East Berlin and the United Unions controlled West Berlin. It was built to separate democracy (West) and communism (East) because people from the East wanted to come into the West for a better life.
