    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was the program to aid Europe where the US gave monitary support to help rebuild European economies after the end of WWII in order to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism. Lasting for 4 years, the plan was to rebuild war devistated areas and make Europe prosperous again.
  • The Berlin Airlift

    The Berlin Airlift
    A 327 day long operation in which the United States and Great Britain had planes fly food and supplies into west Berlin, Germany after the soviets blockaded the City in 1948. It was to help the people trapped under Communist control.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization or Nato is a military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty signed on April 4th 1949. It is an agreement to a system of collective defence in response to an attack by an outside party. The tension was thick for prospect of Soviet invasion durring the Cold War.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    At the end of WWII Korea was split into North and South Korea on the 38th Parallel. The Soviet Union created a communist government in North Korea and the US created a democratic government in the south. On June 25th 1950, North Korea invaded south korea. The war was ended with a signing of peace.
  • The Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact, also known as the Warsaw Treaty Organization of Friendship, was a mutual defense treaty between 8 communist states in eastern Europe. The treaty was established under the initiative of the Soviet Union and signed in Warsaw on May 14th 1955. It was to mimic NATO.
  • The Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War
    North Vietnam supported by its Communist allies wages war against South Vietnam and its anti-communist allies. In the begining, the French faught agianst the north then later the US comes and fights. The US views the involvment in Vietnam as a way to contain the spread of Communism. The US retreated.
  • Sputnik 1 Launches

    Sputnik 1 Launches
    Sputnik 1 was the first satelite to orbit space. Launched by the Soviet Union during the space race, the satelite's batteries ran for 26 days before transmission cut out. This launched the US and the soviet union into the Space Race.
  • The Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion
    With Cuba's covernment taking a turn in the direction America didn't want it to, the US government issued an overthrow of Fidel Castro. With the bombing of the Bay of Pigs, Cuba starting on April 15th and the main invasion force landing the day after, the invading force surrenders on the 20th embarrassing the US.

    The Berlin Wall Goes Up
    The Berlin Wall was a barrier cunstructed by the German Democratic Republic starting August 13th 1961. It was built to cut off West Berlin from East Berlin and the surrounding Germany. The wall seperated de-Nazified people from radicalists. The wall then came to symbolize the Iron Curtain that seperated Europe.

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    The Cuban Missle Crisis was a 13 day confrontation between The Soviet Union with Cuba against the United States and the Cold War gets close to turning into nuclear conflict. The US formed a blockade around Cuba and demanded the dismantal of offensive wepons. The USSR agreed and solved it peasfully.
  • Apollo 11 Moon Landing

    Apollo 11 Moon Landing
    During the 1960's the US and the Soviet Union where in the middle of the Space Race. The Soviets were the first to launch a satelite into space but the US were the first and only to send a man to the moon. On July 16th 1969, Apollo 11 landed on the moon making history.

    Nixon Visits China
    US president Richard Nixon's 1972 visit to the People's republic of China was an important step in formaly normalizing relations between the US and the People's republic of China. The visit ended 25 years of seperation between the US and PRC, and china gave the US pandas as a token of peace.
  • USSR invades Afghanistan

    USSR invades Afghanistan
    The soviet war in Afghanistan lasted nine years. Part of the Cold war, it was faught between soviet led afghan forces against multi-national insurgent groups called the mujahideens. The final troop withdrawal started on May 15th 1988. It is refered to as the Soviet's Vietnam war or "The Bear Trap".

    German Reunification
    In the year 1990, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and Berlin is reunited into a single city. The Berlin Wall is torn down to symbolize the unification.
  • Collapse of the Soviet Union

    Collapse of the Soviet Union
    The Soviet Union was formaly desolved on December 26th, 1991. The previous day the Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev resigned and stated the office extinct. He then handed over the nuclear launch codes to russian president Boris Yeltsin.
