    • Was a canadian law created to ban the use of propaganda to support the feild of commusim
    • What happened was that is there was propaganda coming out of a certain source(such as a newspaper or TV agency) than they would be padlocked(store was locked up)
    • Why this was segnificant was becuase during that time people in Canada did not like communism. So by eliminating all sources that supproted it they thought it would help prevent people in Canada starting to support it.

    Spies in Canada: Gouzenko Affair
    • The Gouzenko Affiar was when a Russian spy by the name of Igor Gouzenko, exposed Russia secrets. He was the man to tell the Canadians about the Russian spies in Canada. After this he went into hiding and when he came out he wore a hood
    • Why this was segnificant was because a main part of the cold war was spying, therefore by this man exposing one sides spies and thier locaton it was a large advantage to the North Americans
  • Berlin blockade

    • This was a blockade set up by the germans; it was set up at west berlin to block alll allied supply lines from getting into the city. -The bloackade failed because the allies were able to airlift the supplies into Berlin -Why this was an important because the blockade raised quite a bit of tension between the Soviet Union and its former allies, therefore making matters even worse

    -NATO or North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created to protect members agaisnt further soviet agression
    -all member pleged to protect eachother if tht time arose
    -NATO includes Bulgium, Britian, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway Portugal and the USA
    - Why this was so segnificant was because it was almost like a scare tactic for the Soviets. As well each of those countries knew that if the need ever arouse they would have the others to back them up

    -North Korea and China got together to sttack South Korea because it was not communist
    - It was battle of Communism and democracy
    - Canada sent in nearly 25 000 troops but only 16 out of the Leauge of Nations countries sent troops
    - This was a important event because the Canadaians helped make a truce between two warring countries givin them less to worry about in the cold war

    • Was fight between Isralis and the Arabs of Isreal: Other Eastern countries took sides
    • Was an attack from the BRrtish French and Isralies to seize a canal called the suez canal, the UN resolved it by bringing a cease fire and having patrols
    • For resolving the crisis Lester B Pearson Wins the nobel prize -This was segnificant because it gave the UN a chance to show what great things they could to with the group power they had

    • Sputnik was a satalitite the the Soviets launched into space
    • The statilite was not the problem; it was the missle that got it into space, it could easily devliver a long range missile into North America
    • To rival the soviets missile that took the satalite to space the Canadaians built IMCBS intercontinental balistic missiles to replace there long range bombers to be able to rival the Soviets
    • this was an important event because it kicked off the advancements in arospace technology

    • The Avro Arrow was a highly advanced fighther jet built by the Canadians
    • John Deifenbaker was the one who cancelled it and order AMERICAN ready-made Bombarc Missiles, this limited controll on where Canadaisn Missiles could be used
    • This was a segnficant event because the Avro Arrow was a large advancement in arospace technology and y scrapping it in some ways minimized Canadas sucess rates
  • NORAD and DEW

    NORAD
    -NORAD or North American Air Defence was an agreement signed by the USA and the Canadaians to help defend each other
    DEW
    - DEW or distant early warning system was put in place at the top of Canada by the north americans
    -they put it here to detect Soviet missiles and planes from 4800km away so if there arose a crisis there would be time to become safer than without warning
    - This was important because it gave north Americans a sense of security and has a somewhat scare tactic for Soviet

    - Vietnam had spilt in two and communist vietnam wanted to convert the other half
    -a war arouse out of this conflict
    - This was segnificant becuase it was yet another war that people were a. trying to escape and b. con vert each other to force belifs on them

    • Deployed 56 American made missiles to sites in Ontario and Quebec
    • The government did not tell the publc about what was happening, which when they found out caused controveries on weather or not they should be deployed on Canadian soil
    • People did not want this instillation becasue they feared that it wold make them more of a target
    • This event could have changed Canadian history; this is because if the target was to be put of our back it could have been detrimental to our home(Ontario)
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    • Soviets were building missile deployment sites on the slandof Cuba, these site were in a position that they could have a direct to Canadas/Americas mojor cites
    • There was a bloackade made by the American Navel to stop soviet ships from physically delivering the mssiles
    • The blockade was sucessfull and the soviet ships went back to Russia -Why this is important is becasue if the missiles from Cuba were deployed Canada and American could have been much diffrent places from the bomb
  • Canada-Soviet Hockey Series

    Canada-Soviet Hockey Series
    • Canadians challenged the Russian to a hockey game in the hope of an overwhelming vicotry; they were surprised because in teh seven game series for the final game it was a 3 games each senario and in the last seconds were won the previously tied game which made Canadian proud
    • Why this is an important event was because it was an imputus for Canadaian pride; since we won this gave us hope we could over take Russia in otehr ways

    • on the 9th private travels were opened on the 10th demolition workers worked on a new checkpoint on the 12th a new check point was opened on the 22 of December a pedestrain check point was opened by july 1st 1990 the walls all gone -This was an important event because this gave people the freedom to go where they like not being restricted to where they are; therefore it was also a finishing of the war memorial

    • Soviet Union disintegrated into fifteen separate countries.
    • Its collapse was a victory for freedom, a triumph of democracy over communism
    • The United States rejoiced as its formidable enemy was brought to its knees, thereby ending the Cold War which had hovered over these two superpowers since the end of World War II
    • This was an important event becasue the cold war was over
