This event was a huge turning point in american history. British soldiers were standing gaurd at a bank when colonists mobbed them. The scared soldiers fired into the crowd and killed 5 people.

This was yet another tax put on the colonists without thier consent. Though it did make tea cheaper, the colonists still wanted thier consent to be recognized by Britain.

After all the taxes passed on the colonies the Tea act was the final straw for most colonists. On a night in December some colonists dressed as INdians and boarded British tea ships in Boston harbor and threw the tea overboard. The results of this were the Intolerable acts.

At this assembly, the colonies came up with the Declaration of Rights and Greivences. They also decided when to meet again, whether a good or bad result came from the letter.

This was the last continental congress before the war. In this congress, th colonies tried to reason with Britain by sending the Olive Branch petition. It didn't work.

This was the colonies way of expressing that they would fight for freedom if they had to. The British sent 2 waves of soldiers up the hill and only because the colonists ran out of ammo did they take the hill at all. The cost for the British was not worth the territory gained.

The Olive Branch Petition was a last ditch effort by the colonies to end this conflict peacefully. Britain did not listen and America went back to fighting the war.

This document officially declared the colonies seperation from Britain. It also set inalianable rights that are now recognized around the world.

After a series of losses the continental army needed a victory. With career on the line, Washington made a bold move. He crossed the Delaware River and he and his army destroyed the stunned Hessian mercinaries at thier camp. With this victory, America was back to the fight.

With New York captured, Sir Clinton could now enjoy the comforts of his 'defensive' war.

This was a British victory. General Howe led the British forces around the American right flank. The American scouts had not done a good job so they did not see the British coming.

The British had captured the main base of political operations in the colonies. This made colonists start to question if they could actually win the war or not.

This was an American victory. After a string of losses, the British wanted to win. Led by General Burgoyne, the British wanted to cut off New England from the rest of the colonies. After taking fort Ticonderoga back he headed towards Albany. After being continuallsly atacked by militia, he found himself surounded. He then surendered his whole army to General Hoatio Gates.

After a long string of defaets the Continental army was falling appart. Washington needed time to regroup.

Even though many soldiers died at Valley Forge, washington left with a fully Trained army and adequete supplies.

John Paul Jones was the leader of the early American navy. Even though his main ship lost most of its canons within minutes, after 2 hours more of constant fire the british ship surrenndered.

Under the command of sir Henery Clinton, British forces tried to capture the city of Chaleston.

The British basically captured the whole city and took all the supplies. This was a major confidence booster for the British.

This was the last major battle of the war. Here the british surrendered many of thier troops which would prove to be thier downfall. Shown here is General Cornwallis' famous surrennder to Gerorge Washington.

This treaty officially ended the Revolutionary War. It extended the colonies boundries and made Britain recognize america as a seperate country.
