THE AMERCIAN REVOLUTION

  • THE FRENCH INDIAN WAR

    This was is called the WAR That Made America. British and American Soldiers fought French and Native American soldiers to control North America.
  • THE BEGINNING OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT

    This period ran from 1651 until 1794 with the purpose of understanding the natural world and humankind's place in it solely on the basis of reason and without turning to religious belief was the goal of the wide ranging intellectual movement.
  • TREATY OF PARIS

    This was the treaty that ended the French and Indian War. In the Treaty France surrenders all of its former North American territories east of the Mississippi River to Britain, except New Orleans. Canada is also give to Great Britain. Spain a late entrace to the war surrenders Florida to Britain as a payback Britain returns Cuba to Spain and then most of the sugar islands in the Carribean are returned to France.
  • THE SUGAR ACT

    It was passed by the English Parliament to offset the war debt brought on and to help pay for the expenses of running the colonies and newly acquired terriorities.
  • THE STAMP ACT

    This act was passed to offset the British military organization in America. This tax was paid directly to England not local governments.
  • THE TEA ACT

    It added threepenney per pound import tax and allowed the almost bankrupt British East Tea Company to sell directly to without merchants being involved.
  • THE BOSTON TEA PARTY

    A meeting is held to decide what to do with the 3 ships of tea docked in the harbor. Colonial activists dressed as Mohawk Indians throw 342 containers of tea into the harbor.
  • CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION

    They begin meeting to have a centraly authority to which all the colonies could turn for guidance. It also was to bring about united action against British oppression.
  • BATTLE OF LEXINGTON AND CONCORD

    One of the greatest myths is that Paul Revere shouted "The British are coming!" because they were all from Britain so this cry would have cnfused everyone. At Lexington they captured colonial leaders Sam Adams and John Hancock. Then went to Concord where they would seize gunpowder.
  • THE SECOND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS

    A provincial congress begins preparing for a state of war. Patrick Henry delivers his famous quote "give me liberty or give me death!"
  • THOMAS PAINE publishes COMMON SENSE

    The book challenged the authority of the British govenrment and royal monarchy. It was the first book to openly ask for indenpendence from Great Britain.
  • DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

    The 1st through the 4th congress debates the Declaration then on the 4th it is adopted and sent to the printer.
  • VALLEY FORGE

    Washington's army retires to winter quarters at Valley Forge and are lodged her for six months braving the elements and low morale. No battle was fought her from 12-19-1777 to 6-19-1778 the soldiers were here.
  • SHAY'S REBELLION

    Daniel Shays, outraged by the denial of paper money to prevent foreclosure on the lands of hardworking farmers, led a rebellion against the government to prove how seiors the farmers of the time were. They had a lost land and property because of postwar depression and Shays was fighting but was defeated.
  • RATIFICATION OF THE CONSITUTION

    US Constitution adopted, when New Hampshire ratifies it.
