Eliza Schuyler was born on August 9, 1757. She was born in Albany, NY. Her family was very large and wealthy, and involved in the government. She had many sisters that were known for being the main focus of men at social gatherings.

Eliza Schuyler is introduced to her future husband Alexander Hamilton. They met on Washington headquarters. The two got along instantly.

Eliza marries Alexander in Demeber of 1780. The two get married in Schuyler Mansion.
They were known and liked by many people as a couple. -
Eliza gives birth to her first child, Philip, in 1782. She will continue to have another 7 children by 1802. She is know to have had one miscarriage. Philip Hamilton was said to have been a spitting image of his father in every way.

Her husband, Alexander, left the army in 1783. Many officials had encouraged him to spend time with his family. The family then started to build their estate.

In 1788 Alexander Hamilton and John Jay wrote a series of 85 if the spans on six months. The papers supported the new US constitution. The papers made the family’s fame explode.

In the summer of 1791 Alexander begins a romantic affair with a married woman named Maria Reynolds. Eliza at the time was over seas visiting her sick father. Alexander payed the woman’s husband $1000 to keep quiet.

Alexander Hamilton addresses his affair in a pamphlet he published in 1797. He pleads his legal innocence in this paper. At this point, his political career is destroyed. Eliza is crushed.

On July 11, 1801, Eliza’s eldest son Philip is killed, Philip is shot in a duel fighting for his father’s honor. Alexander knew about the duel.

On July 12, 1804, Alexander is shot and killed. He was also shot in a duel. He was killed by political enemy, Aaron Burr.

In 1806 Eliza opens The New York Orphanage Asylum. It will be a safe home for immigrants in New York. It will also help her cope with the loss of her son and husband.

On November 9, of 1854, Elizabeth Hamilton dies. She died of ailments from old age. She was buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, which was away from the rest of the Hamilton family.
