    Parents: Jonathan Jackson (1790-1826) an attorney, and Julia Beckwith Neale (1798-1831). They were married in September 1817 and had four children: Elizabeth (1819-1826); Warren (1821-1841); Thomas (1824-1863), and Laura Ann (1826-1911).

    Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson lived about 40 years, between 1824 and 1863.
    He died of pneumonia after a shot to the arm.

  • Lincoln Elected

    Lincoln Elected
    Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the United States. This was seen as the final straw for the southern states, believed to have pushed the civil war into motion.
  • Virginia seceded from Union

    Virginia seceded from Union
    Virginia voted to secede on Apr. 17, 1861. The secession vote was ratified by the citizens of Virginia on May 23. Virginia then existed as an independent republic until it joined the Confederacy on Jun. 19.
  • Harper's Ferry

    Harper's Ferry
    John Brown, after an unsuccesful attempt to start a slave rebellion in the south, had to take refuge in a local firehouse. Stonewall was sent as a legal representitive to disarm the situation.
    After multiple deaths, many who were Brown's own children, Brown was forced into submission. Brown was hung soon after his capture.
    This event stired the pot, that would eventually lead into the Civil war.
  • Bull Run

    Bull Run
    The battle of Bull Run was the first real battle of the Civil War. A Union army consisting of about 28,000 men kept the 33,000 Confederates on the run for the begining of the 5 hour battle.
    Jackson earned his nickname, Stonewall, after being the only brigade to hold his ground. Thanks to his stubborness, the Confederates were able to hold the ground long enough for renforcements to arrive.

  • Shot in the Arm

    Shot in the Arm
    Stonewall was shot by his own men, after stumbling upon them. They were under attack from various groups of Union groups, and mistook him in the night for the enemy. Picture: Stonewall's arm was buried seperately from his body after it was amputated.
