Peter Egerton Warburton was born on the 16 of August 1813 at Arley hall, Northwich, Cheshire, England he was the fourth son of Rowland Warburton.

From 1829 to 1831 then he went to the Royal Indian Military Collage, Addiscombe,

Peter graduated universtity and joined the royal Native Infantry Battalion, Bombay army.

Peter retired as assistant adjutant-general with the rank of major.

In 1853 Warburton visited his brother George at Albany, Western Australia, He then ravelled down to adelaide to replace A. Tolmer as commissioner of police on 8 December.

Peter left adelaide with his son richard and J. Lewis It was financed and provided with seventeen camels and six months supplies.

Peters crew left Alice Springs in April 1873, they endured long periods of extreme heat with little water, and survived only by killing the camels for meat.

They reached the Oakover River with Warburton strapped to a camel, he had become blind in one of his eyes.

In 1874 Warburton travelled back to england for 6 weeks, while there he recieved the C.M.G award and was given $1000 for his great work that helped the inland explorations of australia.

Warburton had conquered the Great Sandy Desert and had become the first explorer to cross the country from the centre to the west.
