    The launch of Sputnik 1 forced the US to launch its own
    satellites and begin space ewxploration in the earnest.
    It also marked the beginning of the competition between
    the US and the USSR to have dominance in space.

  • Explored 1 satillite

    This is important because it was the first satillite launched
    by the U.S.

  • NASA is formed

    This is important to space exploration because we wouldn't

    have the money to go to space cause NASA is ran by the
    government and without the government there would be no
    NASA

  • Luna 1 is lanched by the USSR

    This is important because it went into orbit around the Sun.

  • "Mercury Seven" astronauts are selected by NASA

    This is improtant because they were NASA's first astronauts.

  • Alan B. is the first American in space

    This is important because it shows the Russians that
    we are as advanced as them.

  • Gherman Titov spends a dayspace aboard Vostok 2

    This is important because he was the second was man
    to orbit the Earth and the first to spend a day in orbit
    around the Earth.

  • Venera 4 transmits data about the atmoshpere of Venus

    This is important because it was the first space probe
    to transmit data from another atomosphere of antother planet.

  • Soyuz 4 & 5 perform the first Soviet spacecraft docking

    This is important because it shows that men can go to
    space in one spacecraft and return in a different spacecraft
    making it possible to have a spacestation.

  • Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin become the first men to wak on the moon while crewmate Michael Collins orbits around the Moon alone.

    This is important because they showed that we can
    land on the moon and retrun from the moon safely.
