Billy was taken by the Tralfamadorians to their planet. On the way there he was talked to by those who operated the saucer and he tried to read their language.

On the way to a convention for an optometry, the plane Billy, his father-in-law and some other optometrist crashed into the side of a mountain. Everyone died except for Billy.
