Six Scientist and an Atom

  • Democritus

    Democritus
Democritus was thought of as the father of modern science. Democritus was born at abdera, about 460 BCE, into a family of wealth shortly after he started traveling in terms of science and devoted all his time into it. Once his parents passed he even used his inheritance for science. Living a long life traveling to many places for science democritus died in 370 BCE.

    Democritus model
He is considered the father of modern science. He also said that atoms were miniscule, indestructible, spheres of matter.
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
John Dalton was born on September 6, 1766. In 1793, Dalton went on to write his first scientific paper, Extraordinary Facts Relating to the Vision of Colours. He died on July 26, 1844.
Democritus was an influential Ancient Greek philosopher remembered today for his atomic theory of the universe.
John Dalton was a meteorologist and kept daily weather records from 1787 to his death.
  • John Dalton model

    John Dalton model
John Dalton’s theory explained why gases behaved independently and he based this on partial pressures. This idea is that only the same types of atoms in a mixture of gases would repel each other.
  • J.J. Thomason

    J.J. Thomason
Joseph John (J.J) Thomson wa born 1856 and died in 1940 Cheetham Hill, England, he went to a college called Trinaty College at a place called Cambridge. In 1906 he won a Noble Prize for Physics, a long with many accolades.
  • JJ Thomson model

    JJ Thomson model
In his lifetime he discovered the electrons. He discovered the electron when he was in a series of an experiments to study the nature of a discharge in a high-vacuum cathode-ray tube, which was a famous topic for many scientist at the time. This is his plum pudding model and it shows the atom with the electrons in it.
  • Ernst Rutherford

    Ernst Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford was born on August 30, 1871. In 1908 a nobel prize was awarded to Ernest Rutherford "for his investigations into the disintegration of the elements, and the chemistry of radioactive substances". Rutherford later died on October 19, 1937.
The element 'rutherfordium' was named in his honor.a
the model was described by a tiny atom that was charged in the nucleus and very dense. This theory and his atom has been named the nuclear atom.

  • Niels Bohr

    Niels Bohr
Niels Bohr was born on October 7, 1885. Bohr would receive the Nobel Prize in 1922 for his design of the atom, through his infamous “Bohr Model.” He died on November 7,1961. The electrons in an atom would orbit the nucleus of the atom. Bohr worked with the Manhattan Project at the Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico. The Manhattan Project lead to the development of the first atom bomb

  • Erwin Schrodinger

    Erwin Schrodinger
Schrodinger was born on August 12, 1887. During his time in Oxford, England he received a Nobel Prize in 1933 in physics. He modeled the atom based off quantum mechanics. He passed away at the age of 73 on January 4, 1961.
Schrödinger devoted himself to Italian painting after his chemistry studies,
Erwin Schrodinger designed multiple mathematical equations to determine where the electrons in an atom tend to be located.
