    Freud Is Born
    Sigmund Freud was born on May 6th, 1856. Sigmund was born in Freidburg, Moravia (which is now the city of Pribor in the Czech Republic). Sigmund was born into a very poor family, and he was the first child born out of eight. ("Sigmund Freud 1856-1939").
  • The Freuds Move to Vienna

    The Freuds Move to Vienna
    Due to failure of his father's business, Sigmund Freud and his family moved to Vienna, Austria in 1860. They settled in the Jewish neighborhood of Leopoldstadt. This is significant because in Vienna, Freud was educated and started his theories of phsycology here. Freud also spent most of his childhood here as well. (Hall and Nordby 42-52).
  • Sigmund Enters Leopoldstadt

    Sigmund Freud entered the Leopoldstadt Gymnasium School, and he was very successful. This event is important because this is where Freud began to be educated on medicine, and Freud wanted to work with medicine when he got older. This would later lead to further success in his future life to come. (Flippo).
  • First Transcontinental Railroad

    First Transcontinental Railroad
    In 1869, the first transcontintental railroad was completed. It linked the west and east coasts of the United States. This made transporation for people and trading goods much more easier than it had been. The railroad was invented by many different Irish men and it was also known as the "Pacific Railroad".     Freud Earns Diploma and Enters U.V.
    In 1873, Sigmund graduated from Leopoldstadt. He earned his Matura Dipoloma (Certificate of Maturity) when he graduated. Then, Freud went to the University of Vienna shortly after. Here, Freud began his real medical studies and started his truly successful career. (Flippo).

    The first Kentucky Derby was held in 1875. This was a very big social event and it attracted many viewers, horses, and competitors to the race. The Kentucky Derby is a horse race and the first winner was Oliver Louis. It was held at Churchill Downs. ("The First Kentucky Derby").
  • Telephone is Invented

    Telephone is Invented
    In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the first device that could transmit speech electrically- the telephone. The telephone was invented in Boston, MA. The invention of the telephone was important because this opened up a door for communicating and made it easier for people to be in touch. This influenced other ideas for people to communicate as well. ("Bell's Telephone").

    Edison Invents the Phonograph
    In 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph. The phonograph was a device that was used for the reproduction and recordings of different sounds. The phonograph was invented in Ohio (U.S.) and greatly increased a spark in the world's culture. The phonograph also influenced more people to listen to music in the later years. ("The Phonograph").
  • Freud Earns Medical Degree

    Freud Earns Medical Degree
    In 1881, Sigmund earned his doctorate degree in medicine (medical degree) from the University of Vienna. Earning the medical degree helped Freud succeed later and life because it showed that he was well educated and had a knowledge in medicine. Unfortunately, people would not allow him in medical jobs, because he was Jewish. Therfore, he went to pyschology. (Michels and Sterba 234-238).
  • Psychoanalysis

    In 1896, Freud first used the term "psychoanalysis". Since he was Jewish, the medical department would not accept him into any jobs when he was older, so he decided to study pyschology. He studied about the unconcious, talk therapy, and other theories. This word became well known and has been used a lot ever since. Shortly after, Freud's father died in 1896 as well. (Tyle 735-738).

    First Book
    In 1899 Freud published his first book. The book was called "The Interpretation of Dreams". The book was about the theory of the unconcious and how the brain worked when a human was sleeping. This book became very popular and people wanted to know more about Sigmund's theories, causing him to study and write more books about psychology. (Watson 491).
  • Messina, Italy Earthquake

    Messina, Italy Earthquake
    In 1908 one of the worst earthquakes of all time hit the small town of Messina in Italy. It hit on the 28th of December. Not only did it hit Messina, but it hit over a dozen of other coastal towns as well. This earthquake killed more than 80,000 people and was rated a 7.5 on the Richter Scale. ("Messina Earthquake and Tsunami of 1809").
  • Diagnosed with Cancer

    Diagnosed with Cancer
    In 1923 Sigmund was diagnosed with oral cancer. He developed cancer from a lot of smoking, even though he was told to stop many times. This caused Freud's studying and development of theories to slow down. The cancer weakened Freud but he tried his best to show that it was not affecting him at all. (Michels and Sterba 243-248).
  • The Goethe Prize

    The Goethe Prize
    In 1930 Freud was rewarded the Goethe Prize. The Goethe Prize was a German literary award named after John Goethe. Sigmund was the fourth person to revieve this award and the city of Frankfurt awarded it to Sigmund. (Hall and Nordby 42-52).
  • Hitler Takes Power

    Hitler Takes Power
    In 1933 Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany. This was a huge political event because it lead to the Holocaust, the mass killing of Jews throughout Europe. Hitler was a cruel dictator and eventually died in 1945. ("Adolf Hitler").
  • Freud Dies

    At the age of 83, Sigmund Freud died in London. Freud would forever be known for his theories of psychology and his concepts of the human mind. The cause of his death was because due to his oral cancer and old age. Freud lived a good life. (Tyle 735-738).
