    Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
    During WWI the Russians government had been overthrown by the communists. Since they were losing so many people in the war, they decided to sign a treaty with the Germans. They gave some territory to the Germans, but got it back after the end of WWII. The treaty saved thousands of Russian soldiers from losing their lives.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    Afte the long war, Germany and the Allies signed the Treatuy of Versailles. It officially ended WWI. Had Germany not surrendered, hundreds of thousands more people would have died by gas or wounds from bettle.
  • Prohibition

    Prohibition
    Groups of women and farmers opposed alcohol. They wanted it to be illegal. The 18th ammendmaent was passed in Oct. 1919. It banned the sale and transportation of alcohol in the US. Speakeasies started during the time of prohibition. People called bootleggers began smuggling alcohol. Big gangs started forming because they could make easy money selling it to people. It was an attempt by the government to try and stop Americans from drinking, and it failed miserably.

    This organization was created in 1866 by white farmers in Tennesse. They were "the protectors of Americanism". They terrorized black and immigrants. They tried to keep America a white christian nation.
  • Al Capone

    Al Capone
    During prohibition, Al Capone mad his living by bootlegging. He was responsible for the murder of hundreds of people that were in opposing gangs. He was responsible for the ST. Valetines Day Massacure. He was eventually sent to prison because he ddn't pay his taxes. When he was sent to prison the streets became a lot safer, and the gangs weren't as powerful.

    During the 20s, the stock market was at an all time high untill Black Tuesday. It all stared because one group's stock went own so everyone started selling. Since everyone was selling, people had to drop their prices lower and lower until it was worth nothing. It left investors with little to no money at all, and most of the banks didn't have any money either because they loaned it out to all the investors.

    The Lost Generation was a group of artists who blamed President HOover for all the problems. They expressed thmselves through thier literary works. All of the Lost Gereration were expatriots. They told people what was wrong with the way the government was working.

    During the beginning f the Great Depresion, people feared that they would lose all the money that they had in the banks. FDR told Americans over the radio that only the stable banks had reopened. It gave Americans the sence of protection nd hope.
  • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is created

    Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is created
    After the stock market crash of 1929, the US government created the Federal Depsit Insurance Corporation. its purpose was to mke sure that if another depresion began, people who still have money in the banks.
  • Election of 1936

    Election of 1936
    FDR had been president since 1932, and he was looking to go on to his 2nd term. He was running against Alf Landon in the election. He was afraid that Huey Long would win because Heuy felt that the government wasn't doing enough for the people. Heuy wanted the US to adopt a "share the wealth" plan. If Heuy won the election, the US might have become a communist nation.
  • Soviet-Germany Non-Agression Pact

    Soviet-Germany Non-Agression Pact
    The European pwoers were on the brink of war. Stallin want to stay out of it so he signes the non-agression pact with Germany. He wanted to keep his people safe and out of war. Germany would later violate that pact and attack Stalingrad. That push the Soviets to enter in the war.
  • Pearl Harbour

    Pearl Harbour
    The Japanese were slowly taking control of the Pacific. The only thing standing in their way was the US fleet stationed in Pearl Harbour. hundreds of Japanese Zeros were sent to destroy the fleet in Pearl Harbour. The fleet couldn't escape quicly because of the narrow canal that connected the ocean to the harbour. Almost the whole fleet was destroyed by the bombers. The bombing put America, officially, in the war.
  • Japanese Internment Camps

    Japanese Internment Camps
    After the bombing of Pearl Harbour, the US relocated tens of thousands of Japaneses-Americans to internment camps. Some Americans saw them as a threat so they put them in makeshift homes. There really was no threat from the Japanese-Americans, but they put them in the camps just to be safe. It was a hardship that the Japanese-Americans had to face if they wanted to live in America.
  • Batann Death March

    Batann Death March
    Japan wanted all of the Pacific Islands, so they set out to conquer the Phillipines. When they began the invasion, the commanding general fleed in the cover of nightfall with the fleet statinoed there. With no support, the soldiers surrendered to the Japanese. Since the Japanese belive in no surrender, they treated the soldiers harshly. They made them march hundreds of miles to prison camps, and 2 out of 7 men died in the marches. It was a key lose in the Pacific.
  • Battle of Iwo JIma

    Battle of Iwo JIma
    Iwo Jima was a key stratigical island for the US. It was within range of Japan's major cites. It took the US over a month to take the island. At that point the Japanese were trying to enflict as many casualities as they could. Out of the 23,000 Japanese on the island only 212 surrendered. The taking of the island allowed for the US to begin bombing Japan.
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    After the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese surrendered to the US. This day became known as V-J Day which means Victory in Japan. thousands of Americans celebrated thos day. V-J Day officially ended WWII.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    After the Berlin had been taking by the Allies, the war in Europe was officially over. Hundreds of thousands of troops march the streets of Europe in celbration. The soldiers were starting to go home to their families. V-E day was the official end of the war against the Nazis in Europe.
  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    During the middle of WWII, the US began developing the atomic bomb. They were in a race against the Axis powers. Since the Pacific war was taking so long, they chose to bomb Japan instead of invading it. It saved hundreds of thousands of US and Japanese lives.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    After the fall of Germany, Berlin was split into two parts, the east and the west. The west was emcratic, and the east was communist. The Soviets blocked off Berlin from west Germany, and the people began to run out of food and fuel. The US and Great Britain began airlifting supplies to Berlin to help the people. The Soviets didn't shoot down the planes in risk of starting another war. The Soviets eventually saw the seige pointless and gave up. Without the supplies, west Berlin would have fallen
  • Korean War Armistice

    Korean War Armistice
    After the long war between the communist North Korea and the democratic South Korea they agreed to an armstice. During the course of the war the South Koreans had been retreated, pushed to China, the they retreated again. Technically north Korea and South Korea are still at war because an armistice isn't a truce. If they hadn't agreed to an armistice, many more Korean, Chinese, and American lives would have been lost.
