Savion was born on November 19, 1973 in Newark, New Jersey.

Savion started taking dance lessons at only seven years of age. During this time, he developed a deep love for rhythm that encompasses tap.

At the young age of nine, Savion made the lead role in a musical broadway titled "The Tap Dance Kid." This musical was about a wanna be tap dancer from encouragement from his uncle, but no support at all from his dad. This broadway was intended to give children a dream to look forward to.

In 1989, Savion came back to doing broadway shows when he performed in "Black ad Blue Musical." This celebrated the black culture of dance and music in Paris between World War I and II.

In February, Savion made his film debut in the movie titled "Tap." During this, a man named Max has to decide to swallow his pride to dance tap or return to his usual life of crime.

In June of 1989, a Tony Award nomination was nominated for him for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Black and blue.

In 1990, he created his first choreography for a festival in the Apollo Theater in NYC.

In 1991, he portrayed Jelly Roll Morton in the musical "Jelly's Last Jam," which debuted in LA.

In 1996, Savion was nominated for best lead actor in a musical for "Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk." He also won the tony award for best choreography for "Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk."

In 2006, Savion formed his own production company in which he oversaw his HooFeRzCLuB School for Tap and produced later shows.

Savion choreographed tap dances performed by the penguin Mumble in the computer animated movie "Happy Feet."

Savion also continued his choreography skills and choreographed again in "Happy Feet 2."

After an absence, Savion returned to broadway in 2016, choreographing "Shuffle Along", "Or", "The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921", and "All that Followed." He earned a Tony nomination again for his work.
