    Doolittle's Raid
    Mission led by: Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle
    America's goal: Avenge the lost lives from Pearl Harbor, send the Japanese a message of them entering the war, and boost American and allied morale.
    With the victory of the raid, Japanese had ended up embarrassed from exposing the Emperor to danger.
    Of course some of the raiders were captured and 3 were executed.

    Battle of Coral Sea
    The Battle was fought from May 7-8 in the waters southwest of the Solomon Islands and eastward from New Guinea. This battle was a result of the Japanese amphibious operation intended to capture Port Moresby. A base out there would support plans for further expansion east. This battle resulted in operational and strategic defeat for them and loses of resources would greatly harm them in the Battle of Midway.

    Battle of Midway
    In May 1942, Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto wanted to destroy the US Pacific Fleet. In order to do this he planned an invasion of Midway Island, which would provide a base to invade Hawaii.
    Using decrypted messages Admiral Chester Nimitz was able to counter attack the Japanese.
    During the attack on June 4th the ending results of the battle resulted in a victory for America, with a huge blow to the Japanese, losing 4 carriers and 3,057 deaths.

    Guadalcanal
    The Battle lasted from August 7, 1942-February 3, 1943.
    The U.S.A's goal was to attack Guadalcanal, which was a major Japanese base in the Solomon Islands.
    On the day of the battle, marines landed on the beach and managed to secure it in 3 months. U.S. reinforcements later arrived to help push the Japanese further out.
    The result was a victory for the Allies.

    The battle lasted from June 15-July 9 1944
    The U.S.A's goal was to establish a base in the Chinese Coast in order to defeat the Japanese Emperor.
    The Japanese was caught off-gaurd and for the first time the bombardment from the war came to Japanese land. The Japanese lost 30,000 lives fighting off the Allies trying to defend the island.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    Iwo Jima was an island that was important to capture due to the advantage of having an air base there for fighter escorts to do bombing missions against mainland Japan.
    It would also serve as a base for crippled B-29s returning from missions.
    The result was a U.S. victory by attacking with great amounts of power, which left the Japanese nowhere to run.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    The goal for the capture of Okinawa was to turn it into a base for air operations to attack the Japanese mainland.
    The end result was a greater amount of deaths on the Japanese side, nearing 100,000 troops killed. They surrendered weeks after the constant bombings from the allies.
